On the night of 28 July 2026, Filip Nowacki won the men's 200m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 18-year-old took gold in 2:07.87, ahead of Olympic champion Zac Stubblety-Cook. It was Jersey's first Commonwealth gold in 36 years.
Front to wall at Tollcross
Nowacki led the race from the first stroke and held the front to the finish. He reached the wall at the Tollcross International Aquatic Centre and climbed onto the lane dividers, slapping the water as Jersey flags waved in the stands. Canada's Oliver Dawson chased hardest, touching about half a second back for silver.
Dawson clocked 2:08.39, a new Canadian record, yet it was not enough. Stubblety-Cook, the reigning Olympic champion who had won this title at Birmingham 2022, finished third in 2:08.91. The order confirmed how completely Nowacki had controlled the swim.
