On a Friday afternoon in Aachen, Charlotte Fry reclaimed her individual dressage world crown. Riding the black Dutch Warmblood stallion Glamourdale, she delivered a Grand Prix Special test that earned 82.295 percent and a roar from the German crowd. The score gave her a second world title, four years after her first.
A roar on the final line
The day built with precision. British teammates Carl Hester and Becky Moody set early marks, then Denmark's Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour broke the 80 percent barrier at 80.927 percent with Mount St John Freestyle. Errors began to appear from the late starters. Reigning European champion Justin Verboomen faltered in the tempi changes, and Isabell Werth lost ground with bobbles on Wendy.
Two world titles, one partnership
When Fry entered, the door stood open. She pushed Glamourdale through a forward, fluent test, highlighting the stallion's extended canter and huge flying changes. The audience clapped in unison as she rode the final line toward her salute. The scoreboard confirmed what the arena already knew: nobody would catch her.
