Gustav Iden won the 2026 IRONMAN Pro Series overall title and the 200,000 USD bonus, sealing the championship with a second-place finish at the World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. The Norwegian amassed 20,177 series points to defeat Germany’s Jonas Schomburg by just 53 points, the closest finish in Pro Series history.

Three minutes lost, a series won

The decisive race unfolded under harsh Hawaiian conditions on 10 October. He entered the marathon outside the top seven, almost nine minutes behind the leaders.

What followed was the fastest run in the top fifteen of the field. Iden worked from sixth at mile eleven to third by mile nineteen. He took second at mile twenty-one and drew within 44 seconds of eventual race winner Vincent Luis, before running out of road and crossing the line in 7:49:02, just 1:35 behind the Frenchman.

A title built on recovery

Iden arrived in Kona eighth in the standings, the only contender who could still improve his full score. His season included twelfth at Oceanside, eighth in Texas, runner-up at Frankfurt, and fourth at the 70.3 World Championship. The series scoring system rewarded time deficits across five best results, and the Kona finale carried maximum points.

His tenacious marathon brought him home seventh, but Iden’s total eclipsed Schomburg’s 20,124 points. Blummenfelt, the defending champion, faded in the Energy Lab and finished third in the standings.
