A match point survived on Centre Court
Karolína Muchová stood one point from defeat. At 8-9 in the deciding-set tiebreak of the Wimbledon semifinal, on 9 July 2026, World No. 2 Coco Gauff held a match point. Muchová answered it, then kept answering, and closed out a 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(10) win to reach her first Wimbledon final. The Championships will produce their first all-Czech women's singles final, an all-Czech final for the first time in a Grand Slam.
The shape of the match shifted with each set. Muchová took the first with clean, forward tennis, drawing Gauff forward and passing her. Gauff reset in the second, running through it 6-1 as her serve found its range. The third asked a different question. Neither player yielded a break, and the set narrowed to a tiebreak, then stretched past its ordinary limits. Muchová defeated Coco Gauff after a thrilling deciding-set tie-break, the margin measured in a single point saved when the door was almost shut.
Her opponent in the final was decided the same afternoon. Linda Nosková beat Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk to complete the pairing, two Czech players left standing for Saturday. It is the first Wimbledon women's final between players from the same nation since the Williams sisters in 2009, and it guarantees the first Czech champion since Petra Kvitová in 2014. The Wimbledon women's singles final will take place on Saturday afternoon.
