Abdil Mahdzan swept both street luge titles at the 2026 World Skate Games in Asunción, reclaiming the top step of the podium he last stood on as world champion in 2023.

Two days, two crowns on Cerro Lambaré

The Malaysian veteran set the fastest time in qualifying on October 4, laying down a 1:07.611 run in the Top Ten Shootout. A night of torrential rain had soaked the Paraguayan course, but clear skies returned for the time trial, and Mahdzan edged Spain's reigning world champion Mikel Echegaray Diez and American Andy Lally.

The final the next day tested every rider further. Consistent rain fell through morning warm‑up runs and the early rounds, forcing the field to adapt as the track dried through the afternoon.

Mahdzan led a grid dense with pedigree. He held off Echegaray Diez and Lally again in the main race, completing the double with the same two rivals on the podium behind him both days.

A seventh world title added to the record

The Asunción sweep carries Mahdzan's career tally of street luge world championships to seven. His title years now stretch from 2012 through to this latest double, spanning governance by the IGSA, IDF, WDSC and World Skate.

He had last worn the World Skate crown in 2023.
