Laura Philipp secured the 2026 IRONMAN Pro Series overall title and a $200,000 bonus with a second-place finish at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona on October 10. The German’s total of 20,754 points placed her ahead of Solveig Løvseth and Kat Matthews, sealing the season-long crown after a marathon of high drama.
A title won in the final mile
Philipp emerged from the swim in 30th position, more than eight minutes behind the leader. She began the marathon in tenth, still 9:52 back from Taylor Knibb, then produced the fastest women’s run split of the day — a 2:50:42 — in humid conditions that grew heavier as the afternoon wore on. One by one she reeled in the fading athletes ahead.
The decisive swing came with less than a mile to go. Løvseth, who had taken the lead with five miles left, collapsed and could barely walk. Philipp swept past into second while Knibb retook the lead for the world title. Løvseth got back up and crossed eighth to a loud ovation.
