The Russia mixed team claimed the World Beach SAMBO title in Caraguatatuba, Brazil, defeating Romania 3-0 in the final on 13 September to close the championships with a commanding performance.
A clean sweep on the sand
The final left no room for argument. Russia proved unequivocally stronger across a mixed lineup of women at 72 kg and over 72 kg, and men at 71 kg, 88 kg and over 88 kg. They did not drop a single bout, sealing the gold medal with a shutout win.
Romania's battle to reach the final
The Russian team's path had been equally dominant, with straightforward wins over Costa Rica and Israel. Romania faced a far sterner test. Their semifinal against Kazakhstan became the tournament's defining contest, a nail-biter that stretched to a fifth and final bout before Romania edged it 3-2.
