Hungary's Zsófia Törőcsik won the Free Immersion world title at the 2026 AIDA Depth World Championships in Limassol with a dive to 108 metres, a new world record pending ratification. She improved her own previous mark by one metre and added another chapter to a season-long duel with Ukraine's Nataliia Zharkova.

Four minutes, one metre deeper

Törőcsik pulled herself down the dive line without fins, the discipline's defining rule, reaching the plate at 108 metres before turning for the surface. She completed the dive in 4:00 minutes, executed the surface protocol and showed her tag to the judges.

Then she threw the tag into the air. The gesture came moments after she had edged Zharkova, who claimed silver with a 103-metre dive that kept their rivalry burning across the entire 2026 season.

Two golds in Limassol

The Free Immersion record had already changed hands four times this year between the same two women. Törőcsik's 108-metre dive made it five, improving the 107-metre mark she set in the Philippines earlier in 2026 while competing for the nOxygen Apnea Club. Five days before this record, she won the Constant Weight No Fins gold at 78 metres, a Hungarian national record.

Spain's Isabel Sanchez Aran took bronze at 92 metres for her first World Championship podium and a Spanish record. The Limassol waters also yielded national records for Australia, South Africa, Switzerland and Israel on a day when the Mediterranean gave the deepest rivalry in freediving a perfect stage.
