Zhao Xintong rose to snooker world number one for the first time, beating Neil Robertson 5-1 in the Wuhan Open quarter-finals. The reigning world champion becomes only the second Chinese player to lead the rankings.
A two-frame burst settles the summit clash
The match was a direct duel for top spot after Judd Trump's earlier exit. Zhao seized control with opening breaks of 106 and 91, taking a 2-0 lead. Robertson pulled one frame back, but Zhao won the next three to close out the contest in front of a home crowd.
Joining Ding in a select Chinese club
Zhao follows Ding Junhui, who topped the sport briefly in early 2015. The achievement adds to a season of historic firsts for the 27-year-old. He had already become the first Chinese winner of the World Snooker Championship.
