On 6 January 2019, at Val di Fiemme in Italy, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the Tour de Ski. At 22, he became the youngest champion in the event's history.
The youngest name on the Tour de Ski roll
The Tour de Ski runs across several stages and finishes each January at Val di Fiemme. Klæbo carried the overall lead into the closing stage and held it to the line. The tour crown was the first of its kind in his young career.
An early mark in a career that rewrote the record books
The title sat inside a fast rise. The previous winter he had won three gold medals on his Olympic debut at PyeongChang. He had also taken the overall World Cup at 21, the youngest winner of the Crystal Globe in the sport.
The years after brought more. He retained his Olympic sprint title at Beijing 2022 and added team sprint gold with Erik Valnes. At the 2025 World Championships in his home town of Trondheim, he swept all six men's events, the first man to do so.
His records kept climbing. In December 2025 he became the first male cross-country skier to reach 100 World Cup wins. He now holds 15 world titles, more than any other man in the sport, with six overall World Cup crowns beside them.
At Milano Cortina 2026 he took six golds at a single Winter Games, the first athlete in any sport to reach that mark, passing Eric Heiden's five from 1980. Along the way he set a new all-time Winter Olympics record with his ninth career gold.
The Val di Fiemme win now reads as an early chapter. It was the first grand title in a career that would keep rewriting the record books, from PyeongChang to Milano Cortina.
