Ivonne Nochez Gallardo of El Salvador shattered the women's senior 200m dual time trial world record during qualifying at the World Skate Games in Asunción, Paraguay. She clocked 18.389 seconds, erasing Geiny Pájaro's 18.531 that had stood since 2021.

A record carved from a testing wind

The opening day of track racing was marked by strong, persistent gusts that challenged every athlete. Days of uncertain weather had limited proper track testing, making the morning's two world records all the more remarkable.

Final flipped into a Colombian duel

The evening final played out differently. Nochez Gallardo could not reproduce her record pace, crossing in 18.615 for bronze. Ahead of her, Colombians Kollin Castro and Geiny Pájaro staged a breathtaking sprint.

Castro took gold in 18.425, with Pájaro claiming silver in 18.429.

Bronze with a champion's weight

The podium finish adds to Nochez Gallardo's deep résumé. She became a three-time world champion in Buenos Aires in 2022, sweeping the 200m dual time trial among her three golds. Two years later, she secured her first senior world title in the 100m event at Montesilvano, Italy, edging her French rival by seven hundredths.

"Estoy muy contenta, no había visto a mis padres desde hace unos siete meses y estoy feliz de verlos de nuevo," she told reporters after returning home, her record and bronze safely in hand.

One sparkling qualification run in Asunción was enough to rewrite the record books, even before the medals were decided.
