History did not wait. It arrived on a Sunday in Stuttgart, clocked at 1:55.617, and carried a Chilean flag across the line. Paz Gallo won the first-ever women's race at Red Bull Cerro Abajo, becoming the inaugural female champion of the world's most brutal urban downhill series.
Beating the home favourite by a heartbeat
The race unfolded on the stairways and alleys of the German city, where Gallo faced not only gravity and concrete obstacles but the weight of a home favourite. German rider Nina Hoffmann, one of the discipline's most respected figures, stood between Gallo and the record books.
The margin at the finish line was vanishingly small. Gallo stopped the clock at 1:55.617, and Hoffmann crossed a heartbeat later at 1:55.735.
